Fenton is the town Arnold Bennett left out. His "Five Towns" were really six, and Fenton is the one that got forgotten — squeezed between Stoke and Longton, easy to miss on the way through. Locally it's worn as a badge of honour rather than a slight, and we treat it the same way: City Road and Christchurch get the same round as everywhere else, no exceptions.
The town centre is a tight Victorian grid — City Road, Christchurch, Great Fenton — terraces built close and altered many times since, with the odd industrial unit or workshop still wedged in among the houses.
